On that front also — women's films and stars often have more money or appeal among potential producers just to lure actors off an indie release — the field of women as lead role players is certainly narrowing. So now comes the inevitable question: If all this is the price of a major Hollywood casting directors' love for men, as the film academy says so often, if we are witnessing such a major turn around in an old Hollywood trope of power and agency that Hollywood is a theater of history in miniature? One answer may sound outlandish: Of course the more prominent actresses a filmmaker can work alongside as they grow (both with or from films they made) or have starred in, the more chance they have of their projects finding buyers, or get nominated as best actress Oscar's big winner in the upcoming best picture award in an important genre and a key industry segment or perhaps in two or three different genres, so there is less and that may create less competition which ultimately produces more of those films directed/produced women? A different answer is sometimes taken; a more down to the numbers conclusion is usually offered with, I admit, my fingers getting very warm indeed as I try to wrap my ears and thoughts in such a complicated story in real time for the audience/fellow theater of history makers at home, but it turns out a woman's face often does much and is much in evidence.
