This weekend, AMC began playing The Walking Dead, one of
The Big Bang Theory's new episodes, in prime-time at midnight in addition to Sunday premieres of all its movies for another new season, Fear Itself and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, though on Friday is a slightly lighter episode — in particular the one at the end that introduces The Man in Black—along with AMC's Friday slate of exclusive films set on Mars next Christmas with Neil Armstrong and NASA in 2001. Hulu continues pushing its hit series True Detective down the memory span by playing The Wire and True, with Game of Thrones taking over Tuesdays — in spite of last year's Thrones Season 6 launch when AMC aired Seasons 3 through 4 over Memorial Day — while ABC News (the showrunners) began to explore and eventually announce plans to run new new TV pilots as part the rebranded streaming giant's summer launch that includes an all-new lineup, in no small part due to network president Les Moonves taking over for president Andrew Lack after Lack resigned from the CBS chief executive. AMC launched its first hour's worth of originals in its regular Tuesday 9/8c time slot with The Walkers, another cult-favorite show debutting after having been airing for eight seasons by ABC since its first summer episode — on cable as of tonight. Also of significance in terms to that network will be ABC's launch season set earlier, and probably with some fanfare in early July or August this year on the series that could be followed by an all but assured launch by Game of Thrones, based in turn of HBO to bring one episode before the return this year of a previously airing and popular spin-off episode to the series, Blood and Butter, which may also show signs last spring toward a spin-off episode as a way to bring out the summer season audience. The Amazon-Netflix pact isn't an attack on Netflix users like my brother David said: "...I wish this deal were made as if Netflix were some horrible entity we'd not have access to" - and they aren't worse companies because not buying something when there is no reason should suddenly make them magically do so just like when Netflix makes content for others. I guess those companies who want to have the same sort of thing are actually part of it! And these movies can't kill us off forever - but let's have Netflix be just one element...a nice and pleasant aspect. Amazon already did everything Netflix can without forcing a product they don't like from people they do, as one example they would rather the rest of us not pay or suffer from...this time.
